Terms of use
In language you can read. If something here isn't clear, that's our fault — write to us.
Version of 20.10.2026
This is an English translation for convenience. The Hebrew version is the one that binds (section 17).
1. What this agreement is about, and who we are
These terms are a binding agreement between you and Badook ("we"), which operates the badook.app site and the service.
By signing up for the service, ticking the agreement box or using the service, you confirm that you have read the terms and the privacy policy, and agree to them. If you don't agree — do not use the service.
Anyone who signs up for or uses the service on behalf of a school, an academic institution or another body declares that they are authorized to bind it to these terms. A written agreement signed with an institution prevails over these terms in whatever it expressly governs.
“Students” includes university students, and “school” includes an academic institution.
2. What the service does
Badook takes an exam and scanned notebooks, builds a rubric, and grades each notebook with the help of AI tools. Every notebook comes back marked, with a score and a reason for each question, and with an analysis of the class. The service also splits a scanned file of a whole class into notebooks, and lets you share results through a link.
We may improve, change or discontinue features of the service from time to time. We will give advance notice of a change that materially harms a feature you have already paid for.
3. AI: a suggestion, not a decision
Everything the service produces — a grade, a reason, a rubric, reading a name or ID number, splitting a file into notebooks, marking where an answer sits on the page and a class analysis — is a suggestion produced by AI. AI can make mistakes: misread handwriting, assign a page or notebook to the wrong student, miss an answer, or score differently from how you would.
So the decision is always yours. The service is an aid, and it does not replace your professional judgment or your school's procedures. Every grade can be edited, and editing and corrections cost no credits.
Before a grade is given to a student, recorded on a report card or used for any decision — you must review and approve it. The same applies before sending a link to students. A grade, decision or content given without such a review is your responsibility.
We are not a party to pedagogical, disciplinary or administrative decisions made as a result of using the service, and we do not undertake that the result will fit a curriculum, an education ministry's or an institution's rubric, or any other standard.
4. Who may use the service
The service is meant for teachers, lecturers, educators and educational institutions, for professional use. Sign-up is allowed from age 18.
The account is personal. Keep your sign-in details secret, and don't let others use your account. An action taken in your account counts as your action. If you suspect unauthorized use, write to us immediately.
The details you gave at sign-up must be correct and up to date.
5. What you are responsible for
Uploading only exams, rubrics and notebooks you are allowed to upload, and processing them in line with your school's procedures, the instructions of your education authority or institution, and applicable privacy law (in Israel, the Protection of Privacy Law, 5741–1981, and its regulations) — including informing students or their parents, or obtaining their consent, as the law or procedures require.
Uploading only what grading needs. Do not upload documents that are not exams, or sensitive information about students that grading does not need.
Making sure each notebook is assigned to the right student — name and ID number — before the grade is given or recorded.
Keeping your own copy of whatever matters to you. Scanned notebooks and grades are deleted automatically on the dates in section 6, and what is deleted cannot be recovered.
The content you upload, the decisions you make based on the service, and the people you share links with — are your responsibility.
6. Students' information
The notebooks and the information in them belong to you and your school. For this information you (or the school) are the controller, and we process it on your behalf, following your instructions, solely to provide you with the service — not to sell it, not to publish it, and not to train models on it.
To provide the service we rely on infrastructure, email, payment and AI providers, some outside Israel (including cloud services in the European Union and an AI provider in the United States). These providers process the information under their own terms and policies, and may keep a copy for a limited time for security and abuse monitoring. By using the service you agree to the information being transferred to them for this purpose.
Scanned notebooks are deleted automatically 90 days after grading (under an agreement with an institution — as the agreement says). Grades and comments are kept for 12 months from grading and then deleted too. A week before deletion we email you a notice. You can delete a grading, or the whole account, at any time.
We take reasonable, accepted security measures, but no system is completely immune. If we learn of a security incident that affected your information, we will tell you promptly so you can meet your obligations toward students and the authorities.
The full details are in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.
7. Share links and appeals
A student link shows the student their marked notebook. Anyone holding the link can open it without signing in, and it stays active until you revoke it. A colleague link shows the whole grading for viewing, and stays active for 30 days or until you revoke it.
You decide whether to create a link and who to send it to. Send a link only to someone allowed to see what it shows, and revoke a link that reached someone who isn't. We are not responsible for the exposure of a link you gave out.
In an academic institution you can open an appeals window for students. An appeal is submitted to you and decided by you, under the institution's procedures; Badook is only a tool for submitting and answering it, and is not a party to the appeal or its decision. Even in anonymous grading, names are kept with us so that you can reveal them.
8. Credits, payment and cancellation
Grading notebooks and the service's other actions cost credits. The price of a credit, and what each action costs, appear on the pricing page. A new price applies only to purchases after the change.
Credits are bought in advance in one payment, and never expire. They are personal, cannot be transferred to another account, and cannot be exchanged for money — except for the refund in this section.
Payment is made through a licensed payment processor, which also issues the invoice. We don't keep your credit card details. If a charge was cancelled or reversed after the credits were given, we may deduct them from the account, and suspend it until the payment is settled.
A notebook whose grading wasn't completed gets back the credits deducted for it, automatically; grading it again counts as a new notebook. When splitting a whole class's file, a failed step is refunded, and the whole split is refunded when the class is graded as a grading of 21 notebooks or more.
Cancellation within 14 days of purchase: the price paid is refunded, less a cancellation fee of 5% of the price or ₪100 (whichever is lower), and less the value of credits used since the purchase, at the price paid per credit. After 14 days credits are not refunded, and stay in the account for your use.
The refund is made to the means of payment used, and a credit invoice is sent separately. You can send a cancellation request in any way, including by email to the address in section 18. All of this is subject to the Israeli Consumer Protection Law, 5741–1981, and its regulations, and in case of conflict — the law prevails.
An institution's account under an agreement — payment, credits and cancellation as the agreement says.
9. Prohibited use
Do not upload illegal or offensive content, or information about a person you are not allowed to process; try to get around credit limits or security measures, or access another user's information; embed instructions in documents meant to mislead the AI; run automated tools against the service, or overload it; copy, take apart or replicate the service, or use it to build a competing service; or sell access to it to others.
10. Intellectual property
The content you upload stays yours. You grant us permission to use it only as needed to provide you with the service, and declare that you have the rights to grant this permission — including for exams and rubrics you did not write.
What the service produces for you — marked notebooks, grades and analyses — you may use freely in your teaching.
The service, the software, the design and the brand belong to Badook. We may act on suggestions and feedback you send us without any obligation to you.
11. Availability of the service
The service is provided AS IS and AS AVAILABLE. We aim for a continuous, accurate service, but we do not undertake that it will always be available, fast, free of errors, or fit for a particular purpose of yours. In exam season we increase capacity in advance.
The service relies on outside providers — cloud, AI, email and payments. We are not responsible for a fault, outage or change on their side, or for a delay caused by force majeure: war, a security situation, a cyber attack, a widespread communications failure, a natural disaster or an order of an authority.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damage, for loss of profit, income, reputation or data, or for damage caused by a grade, decision or content given without your review as described in section 3.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any damage in connection with the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event that caused the damage.
The limitations in this section do not apply to damage we caused intentionally or through gross negligence, or where the law does not allow liability to be limited.
13. Indemnity
If a third party — a student, a parent, an institution or an authority — brings a demand or claim against us because of content you uploaded without permission, your breach of these terms or of the law, a decision you made based on the service without reviewing it, or a link you shared, you will indemnify us for the damage and reasonable expenses, including legal fees, as awarded or agreed in a settlement with your consent. We will tell you about the demand promptly, and let you defend against it.
14. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or close an account that breaches the terms, whose payment was cancelled, or whose use endangers the service, its users or the information — in a serious or urgent case even without advance notice. In any other case we will give notice in advance.
If we close an account not because of a breach of yours, you will be refunded the value of unused credits, at the price paid per credit.
You may stop using the service and delete the account at any time from the account page. Deleting the account deletes its gradings, notebooks and grades, and its unused credits (except for the cancellation right in section 8).
Sections that by their nature are meant to apply after use ends — including 3, 5, 10, 12, 13 and 17 — continue to apply.
15. Changes to the terms
We will email 30 days' notice of any material change to the terms. After the change date, continuing to use the service will require accepting the updated terms.
If you don't agree to a change, you may stop using the service before it takes effect, and get a refund of the value of unused credits, at the price paid per credit.
A change required by law, or one that doesn't harm you (such as a wording fix or a new feature), can take effect immediately.
16. Notices and records
Notices to us — to the address in section 18. Notices from us are sent to the account's email address, and are deemed received within one business day of being sent.
The system's records — including when the terms were accepted, purchases, credit use and actions in the account — serve as prima facie evidence of their contents.
17. General
These terms, with the privacy policy (and with a written agreement, if one was signed with an institution), are the entire agreement between us regarding the service.
If any section is held invalid, the rest of the terms continue to apply, and the section will be read as close to its intent as the law allows. Waiving or delaying the enforcement of a section is not a waiver of the right.
We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to a body that operates the service in our place (for example in a merger or sale), with notice to you, provided your rights under the terms are not harmed. You may not transfer the account to another person without our consent.
The Hebrew version of these terms is the binding one.
18. Governing law, jurisdiction and contact
These terms are governed solely by the laws of the State of Israel. To the extent the law allows, exclusive jurisdiction lies with the competent courts of the Tel Aviv–Jaffa district.
Before going to court, write to us and we will make a sincere effort to resolve the matter within 30 days.
